Legislation and Politics Civil Rights laws, affirmative action laws, representation in state and federal government, voting statistics
B
Civil Rights laws have been passed and enforced by the government
While the number of African Americans and Hispanics in the government is not near the percentage of population, the numbers are increasing every year
We have an African American president
African Americans vote at nearly the same rate as the average population, but Hispanics are much lower (average around 60% registering, African American 58%, Hispanic 28%)
Encourage minorities to continue to become active in politics, possibly through schools
Push for voter registration drives and voter eductaion in the Hispanic community, possibly with bilingual voting ballots
Employment
Number of employed / unemployed, types of jobs, business ownership
B
The African American population who are employed is about 64%. And the population of Hispanics that are employed is about 69%.
Men are mostly dominating in jobs for the minorities and women are not as high, but women are employed.
In 2004 there were 1,729 unemployed African Americans, and 5,847 unemployed White Americans. There were also, 1,342 unemployed Hispanic Americans.
I think that there should be more programs to help minorities get jobs or give them jobs to do.
Encourage minorities to get jobs and get out into the work field, by giving them more opportunities for jobs.
Education Graduation rates, test scores, college enrollment, educational attainment
The amount of African American children in middle school is 4,541 this was in 2004. Hispanic children in middle school is 5,073. Then the amount of white children in middle school is 21,731.
The percentage of African Americans who have graduated from high school in 2004 was 80.6 The percentage of Hispanic Americans was 51.9. The percentage of White Americans who have graduated from high school was 86.8
The percentage of AFrican Americans who have graduated from college in 2004 was 17.6. The percentage for Hispanic Americans was 7.9. The percentage of White Americans who have graduated from college in 2004 was 28.2.
More schools should be opened in urban areas because thats where a lot of the AFrican American population lives.
There should be more support programs for helping children and adults go to school, and give them loans to go to school.
